Located on the banks of the San Antonio River, the Pearl District is a pedestrian-friendly redevelopment project filled with some of the city’s best shopping, eating and scenery. Spanning 16 city blocks and once home to the Pearl Brewery, this trendy area is the perfect spot for locals to unwind on the weekend and house hunters to explore during their San Antonio home search.

Eat

The Pearl District houses a number of intimate riverside restaurants offering a variety of cuisines from Peruvian-Asian fusion to local beer house classics. Indulge in Texas ranch style grilling at Boiler House, a 6,000 square foot space with an outdoor dining area and many of the 130-year old fixtures and architectural elements preserved. Or enjoy authentic Mexican at La Gloria, a labor of love from Chef Johnny Hernandez celebrating the delicious street food of Mexico. For fresh seasonal fare made from local ingredients, stop by Supper at Hotel Emma, the flagship for the district’s culinary and cultural community.

Drink

With an in-house mixologist and an extensive cocktail menu, Blue Box Bar is a great place to try a creative approach to your favorite drink or expand your libation horizons. Jazz, TX is located in the cellar of the Bottling Department of the historic Pearl Brewery and is home to the essence of South Texas music, playing jazz, blues, swing, salsa and folk music nightly. Finally, don’t miss Sternewirth at Hotel Emma, the boutique hotel’s bar and clubroom serving classic cocktails and generous small plate portions, perfect for an after-work drink and bite.

Play

Include the Pearl District into your weekend routine with the Pearl Weekend Market, a true manifestation of the South Texas ranching and food community. With over 45 vendors all based within a 150-mile radius of the city, you can meet and engage with local food producers on Saturdays at the producer-only farmers market and on Sunday at a larger market featuring artisanal and prepared foods. After enjoying fresh, local flavors, shop the number of unique boutiques and gift shops selling books, clothing, shoes and curios from near and far.
