Hill Country’s Most Popular Lakes (And What We Love About Them)

The charming, picturesque Texas Hill Country has long been a top year-round vacation and retirement spot for Texans seeking tranquility and outdoor space. The several stunning lakes around the area attract everyone from paddleboarders to birders to picnickers. Dive in.

Canyon Lake

This modern phenomenon, known as “The Jewel,”  formed in 2002 and flows from Guadalupe Park River. At over 80 miles long, it’s one of the deepest lakes in Texas. Visitors enjoy boating, water sports, swimming in the lake’s perfectly clear water. After a swim, take in the beautiful scenery on the rocks or the area’s brand new picnic tables or go for a hike around the trails. The area is popular with luxury second-home buyers, with new construction on the horizon.

Lake Buchanan

Central Texas’ second largest lake has plenty of privacy and space to spread out. With an ample supply of bass and catfish, those who love fishing, understand it’s prime real estate value. Lake Buchanan’s spaciousness also makes it a great choice for boating and swimming. Nature lovers, keep your eyes peeled and you might spot a bald eagle flying around the lake. The area is filled with gorgeous lakeside properties.

Boerne Lake

Originally designed to eliminate flooding in Boerne, this lake arose out a need, but the fun doesn’t stop at the fun in function. Boerne City Lake Park has got it all, from fishing and boating to volleyball courts, a 9-hole disc golf course and even a butterfly garden and bird observation blind. Stand-up boards and kayaks are available from Hill Country Paddle Sports (which also offers lessons) and Trisun Sailing will get you on a boat.

Lake Marble Falls

The breathtaking Marble Falls is the area’s smallest lake, and this hidden gem is just right for buyers seeking quiet scenery away from home. Popular with boaters and water skiers, the area also has excellent freshwater fishing and has one of the area’s top supplies of bass. Properties around Lake Marble Falls attract retirees and families and singles seeking a tranquil retreat.

Lake Lyndon B Johnson

Lake LBJ annually boasts a steady, constant water supply, making it a perfect choice for those looking for a drough-proof lake. This lovely area is a hit with boating and sailing enthusiasts, and numerous activities ranging from tubing to kayaking to wildlife viewing makes it similarly popular with families and active vacationers. The area is full of beautiful waterfront houses.

Lake Travis

The longest lake in the area spans all the way from Austin into Texas Hill Country. With a shore that spans 270 miles, there’s a lakefront community and property that will suit everyone. The lake’s size makes it a top spot for water sports like motorboating, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and even scuba diving. Boating and swimming also remain popular activities.

The Texas Hill Country area is filled with lakes that are both attractive and utilitarian for water enthusiasts. For more information about lakes in Texas Hill Country and the properties available near them, contact Denise Graves.
